Spaun Wins Again

Coming into the Valero Texas Open 2026 hadn’t finished in the top 20 all year. He left as a two-time winner of this event. Spaun finished at 17-under par, edging Matt Wallace, Michael Kim, and Robert MacIntyre by one stroke. His pre-tournament odds were +3300.

After starting the final round two strokes behind MacIntyre. He closed with a 5-under 67 on a cold, windy Sunday. Preferred lies were in effect due to intermittent morning showers. He led the entire field in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green at 9.280. That number measures how well a player hits shots from tee to the edge of the green, compared to the field average.

This is Spaun’s third PGA Tour victory, coming in his 252nd start. He is 35 years old. His three wins are the 2022 Valero Texas Open, the 2025 U.S. Open, and now the 2026 Valero Texas Open. Furthermore, he becomes the 11th multiple winner of this event. He is also the first repeat winner here since Corey Conners won in 2019 and again in 2023. Beyond that, this victory moves Spaun from No. 115 to No. 24 in the FedExCup standings. He is also projected to jump from No. 13 to No. 6 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

For context on how the week was set up heading in, see our Valero Texas Open Tournament Preview.

One Memorable Moment at the Valero Texas Open

Robert MacIntyre stood on the first tee Sunday holding a two-shot lead. He had posted rounds of 66-64 through 36 holes. However, Sunday was a different story. MacIntyre shot 70 in difficult conditions. That was 2.7 strokes worse than the Sunday field average.

Meanwhile, Spaun was making his move. He closed with a 67 while three players behind him could not match it. As a result, a four-man logjam formed at 16-under. Spaun stood alone at 17-under. One stroke was all it took to separate a major champion from the rest of the field on a cold, windy afternoon in San Antonio.

Bad Beats

Four players entered Sunday inside the top two and could not hold on.

Robert MacIntyre started Sunday at No. 1. He shot 70, which was 2.7 strokes worse than the field average. He finished T2. Still, a runner-up is a strong result. However, he had the lead and could not close.

Ludvig Aberg and Andrew Putnam both started Sunday at T2. Both shot 70. Both finished T5. That score ran 2.3 strokes over the Sunday average. Neither could apply pressure when it mattered most.

Ryo Hisatsune had the toughest fall. He also started Sunday at T2. He posted a 72, which was 4.3 strokes over the Sunday average. He dropped all the way to T8.

Odds and Value Recap

Spaun opened the week at +1000 for a top-5 finish. He delivered a win. Additionally, Matt Wallace went off at +1800 for a top-5 and finished T2. Michael Kim was the longest shot of the top finishers at +3100. He grabbed a share of second place. That paid off well for anyone who took him.

MacIntyre and Aberg were both priced at +500 for a top-5. Both finished inside the top five, so those hit. Andrew Putnam at +2500 also delivered a top-5 result.

Longshot Callouts

Several players finished in the top 10 with very low pre-tournament odds. Kevin Yu had only a 5.3% chance of a top-10 finish and placed 7th. Chandler Phillips had just a 2.9% probability and finished T8. Furthermore, Austin Eckroat at 5.8% also snuck into the top 10 at T10. Notably, Ryo Hisatsune at 14.0% and Kristoffer Reitan at 8.9% both finished T10 as well.

Next up is the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Our preview goes live tomorrow.
