Best Team In The League

1. San Francisco 49ers ▲ 3 places

Record 2-0Offense 2ndDefense 16thLast W 35-13 vs DolphinsNext vs Cardinals, Sun Sep 27, 4:05 PM ET

A 12-5 record last season and a divisional-round appearance earned this spot at the top of the rankings. The 49ers proved themselves one of the NFL's elite teams in 2025, and the results of their play show it: they carry 0.0969 EPA per play blended from this season and last.

One of the league's best offenses is the engine behind this ranking, carrying the team while the defense sits at middling. That gap between the strongest and weakest unit on the roster is real and wide. A team built this lopsidedly lives and dies by whether the offense can outscore its defensive shortcomings, and right now the offense is doing exactly that.

A 35-13 win over the Dolphins did nothing to threaten the top spot, but a home date with the Cardinals in Week 3 offers a chance to either cement that position or show a crack. Dropping this one to an NFC West rival would put pressure on the 2-0 record and invite a ranking slide, while another comfortable margin would make a strong case for staying right here.

Top 4 Teams

2. Buffalo Bills ▲ 3 places

Record 2-0Offense 1stDefense 23rdLast W 41-31 vs LionsNext vs Chargers, Sun Sep 27, 1:00 PM ET

One of the league's best offenses keeps Buffalo within striking distance of the very top, and 0.1044 EPA per play reflects a team that has earned that position. The gap that remains comes almost entirely from the other side of the ball, where a below-average defense gives the teams ahead of them a meaningful edge. Until that unit closes the distance, the Bills sit just short of the summit rather than on it.

A 41-31 home win over the Lions is the latest evidence that this team is playing at a high level through two weeks, having outscored opponents 77-62 on the season. The Los Angeles Chargers come to Buffalo in Week 3 for what shapes up as an early-season test of that form.

3. Seattle Seahawks ▼ 1 place

Record 2-0Offense 10thDefense 1stLast W 31-7 at CardinalsNext at Commanders, Sun Sep 27, 1:00 PM ET

A 31-7 road win over the Cardinals is about as clean a performance as a team can put together, and Seattle's 44 points scored against just 17 allowed through two games backs that up. The Seahawks head to Washington in Week 3 to face the Commanders.

4. Kansas City Chiefs ▼ 1 place

Record 2-0Offense 7thDefense 13thLast W 33-30 vs ColtsNext at Dolphins, Sun Sep 27, 1:00 PM ET

A 33-30 home win over the Colts keeps them unbeaten at 2-0, with 64 points scored against just 40 allowed through two games. The road trip to face the Dolphins in Week 3 will test whether that early efficiency holds up away from home.

5. Los Angeles Rams ▲ 3 places

Worst Team In The League

32. Atlanta Falcons ▼ 9 places

Record 1-2Offense 31stDefense 15thLast W 35-14 at PackersNext at Saints, Mon Oct 5, 8:15 PM ET

The defense is not what is dragging Atlanta to the bottom of these rankings. A middling defense is a liability, but it is not a catastrophe. The real driver is an offense that ranks among the league's weakest, a gap wide enough that no amount of defensive adequacy can paper over it.

A 35-14 win over the Packers provided a spark, but at 1-2 a road trip to face the Saints in Week 4 is exactly the kind of game that will determine whether that result was a turning point or a one-week outlier. To climb from the bottom of these rankings, the Falcons would need to carry that offensive output into a divisional environment where mistakes tend to be magnified. A loss in New Orleans would make any upward movement very difficult to justify.

Bottom 4 Teams

28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers ▼ 7 places

Record 0-2Offense 22ndDefense 19thLast L 19-23 vs BrownsNext vs Vikings, Sun Sep 27, 4:05 PM ET

A 19-23 home loss to the Browns drops Tampa Bay to 0-2 and leaves little margin for error heading into the early stretch of the season. The Vikings come to town in Week 3, giving the Buccaneers a chance to avoid falling further behind.

29. Los Angeles Chargers ▼ 7 places

Record 0-2Offense 28thDefense 12thLast L 14-26 vs RaidersNext at Bills, Sun Sep 27, 1:00 PM ET

An above-average defense is the only thing keeping the Chargers from the bottom of these rankings. Their offense ranks among the league's weakest, and the team carries -0.0458 EPA per play blended across this season and last. That defensive floor is thin shelter, but it is shelter.

A 14-26 home loss to the Raiders leaves the Chargers at 0-2, having been outscored 52-28 through two weeks. A road trip to face the Bills in Week 3 offers little immediate relief.

30. Tennessee Titans ▲ 1 place

Record 0-2Offense 25thDefense 29thLast L 20-24 vs EaglesNext at Giants, Sun Sep 27, 1:00 PM ET

A 20-24 home loss to the Eagles extended the winless start to 0-2, with Tennessee being outscored 47-30 through two games. A trip to face the Giants in Week 3 gives the Titans a chance to change the record.

31. Miami Dolphins ▼ 3 places

Record 0-2Offense 24thDefense 30thLast L 13-35 at 49ersNext vs Chiefs, Sun Sep 27, 1:00 PM ET

A 13-35 road loss to the 49ers continues a rough start, with the team sitting at 0-2 and having been outscored 26-62 across both games. The Chiefs come to town in Week 3, giving Miami a chance to salvage something from an early hole.

Moving Up

17. Las Vegas Raiders ▲ 12 places

Record 2-0Offense 30thDefense 10thLast W 26-14 at ChargersNext at Saints, Sun Sep 27, 4:25 PM ET

Twelve spots of upward movement this week reflect a defense that has grown into an above-average unit, providing the kind of resistance the Raiders have lacked for years. The offense remains one of the league's weakest, but the defensive improvement has been enough to drag the overall profile higher. Blending this season's play with last season, the team carries -0.0751 EPA per play — a negative figure, but a meaningful step up from where that number sat before the defense found its footing.

A 26-14 win on the road against the Chargers keeps the Raiders unbeaten at 2-0, with 53 points scored and only 27 allowed across both games reflecting a balanced team effort. They head back out on the road in Week 3 to face the Saints.

13. New Orleans Saints ▲ 12 places

Record 1-1Offense 23rdDefense 9thLast W 24-17 at RavensNext vs Raiders, Sun Sep 27, 4:25 PM ET

A 24-17 road win over the Baltimore Ravens gives the Saints their first victory of the season, and they bring that momentum home to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3.

16. Carolina Panthers ▲ 11 places

Record 1-1Offense 14thDefense 22ndLast W 34-3 at FalconsNext at Browns, Sun Sep 27, 1:00 PM ET

Eleven spots of upward movement is a striking jump, and it reflects genuine improvement in how Carolina has played on both sides of the ball. The Panthers carry -0.0013 EPA per play on the blended view of this season and last, which is nearly break-even and a far cry from the deep negative territory that dragged them down earlier. A middling offense and a below-average defense are not glamorous labels, but they represent a team trending in the right direction after going 8-9 and losing in the wild card round last year.

A 6-20 home loss to the Bengals deepened a difficult start, with the Texans now sitting at 0-2 and having been outscored 56-37 through two games. They head on the road to face the Colts in Week 3 looking to avoid falling further behind early in the season.

23. Green Bay Packers ▼ 10 places

A 14-35 home loss to the Falcons left Green Bay at 1-2, having scored 56 points while surrendering 91 on the season. The Packers now travel to face the Buccaneers in Week 4.
