Best Team In The League

1. San Francisco 49ers no change

Record 5-0ATS 4-1Offense 2ndDefense 15thLast W 32-29 at SeahawksNext vs Commanders, Mon Oct 19, 8:15 PM ET

Holding the top spot for another week is a product of what this team put together last season: a 12-5 record that carried them deep into January before a divisional-round exit ended their run. That finish, paired with 0.1141 EPA per play blended across recent play, keeps them ahead of the field heading into this week.

One of the league's best offenses is the engine here, and the gap between the two sides of the ball is real. The defense is middling, meaning the 49ers are carried by what they do with the ball rather than what they take away. Teams built on offensive dominance can sustain a high ranking, but the defense leaves little margin when the offense has a quiet night.

Surviving a 32-29 road win over the Seahawks showed this team can grind out close games, but at 5-0 the margin for error only tightens. Hosting the Commanders in Week 6 is a chance to put distance between themselves and the rest of the rankings, but another narrow escape — or a first loss — would invite serious questions about whether the top spot is truly secure.

Top 4 Teams

2. Buffalo Bills ▲ 6 places

Record 4-1ATS 4-1Offense 1stDefense 23rdLast W 37-34 at RamsNext at Raiders, Sun Oct 18, 4:25 PM ET

A 37-34 road win over the Rams is the kind of result that separates contenders from pretenders, and Buffalo's 4-1 record reflects a team that keeps finding ways to win tight games. Next up is a trip to Las Vegas to face the Raiders in Week 6.

3. Kansas City Chiefs ▼ 1 place

Record 4-0ATS 2-2Offense 7thDefense 10thLast W 30-27 at RaidersNext vs Chargers, Sun Oct 18, 4:25 PM ET

What separates the Chiefs from the two teams above them is thin but real. They carry a top-eight offense and an above-average defense, and 0.0789 EPA per play blended across this season and last reflects a roster that remains firmly in the conversation at the top of the league. The gap to the teams ahead is not about talent — it is about the margin between contenders at this level, where small differences in execution determine the order.

A narrow 30-27 road win over the Raiders kept the Chiefs unbeaten at 4-0. The Los Angeles Chargers come to Kansas City in Week 6.

4. Denver Broncos ▼ 1 place

Record 3-2ATS 3-2Offense 18thDefense 6thLast W 23-17 at ChargersNext vs Seahawks, Thu Oct 15, 8:15 PM ET

A 23-17 road win over the Chargers gives the Broncos back-to-back wins and moves them to 3-2 on the year. Next up is a home date with the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars ▼ 1 place

Record 4-1ATS 3-2Offense 6thDefense 4thLast W 19-17 vs EaglesNext vs Texans, Sun Oct 18, 9:30 AM ET

A narrow 19-17 home win over the Eagles keeps the Jaguars at 4-1 and reinforces that this team finds ways to close out tight games. They stay home in Week 6 to host the Texans, a divisional matchup that will carry serious weight in the AFC South standings.

Worst Team In The League

32. Tennessee Titans ▼ 1 place

Record 0-5ATS 2-3Offense 31stDefense 30thLast L 3-26 vs TexansNext at Colts, Sun Oct 18, 1:00 PM ET

A 3-14 record and a missed playoff berth last season put the Titans squarely at the bottom of these rankings. That finish was not a close call, and the team carries -0.1286 EPA per play as a blended measure of recent and prior play — a figure that reflects how far they sit from league average.

Both sides of the ball are letting this team down, but neither unit is carrying the other. The offense ranks among the league's weakest, and so does the defense, leaving no reliable foundation to build from week to week.

A 3-26 home loss to the Texans leaves the Titans at 0-5 with little margin for error. To move off the bottom spot, something fundamental has to shift on both sides of the ball — that scoreline shows an offense that barely registered and a defense that could not hold. A road trip to face the Colts in Week 6 offers no easy path back; winning that game, and doing so convincingly, is the kind of result that would force a conversation about whether this ranking still fits.

Bottom 4 Teams

28. New York Jets ▲ 1 place

Record 2-3ATS 3-1-1Offense 25thDefense 26thLast W 17-12 vs BrownsNext at Patriots, Sun Oct 18, 1:00 PM ET

A 17-12 win over the Browns at home keeps the Jets afloat at 2-3, though the offense and defense are nearly mirror images of each other with 93 points scored and 96 allowed on the season. A road trip to face the Patriots in Week 6 is the next test.

29. New Orleans Saints ▼ 3 places

Record 1-4ATS 2-3Offense 26thDefense 14thLast L 13-23 vs VikingsNext at Giants, Sun Oct 18, 1:00 PM ET

A 13-23 home loss to the Vikings extended a rough stretch, with the Saints now sitting at 1-4 on the season. They have allowed 151 points while scoring only 118. A road trip to face the Giants in Week 6 offers a chance to stop the slide.

30. Los Angeles Chargers ▼ 2 places

Record 0-5ATS 0-4-1Offense 30thDefense 7thLast L 17-23 vs BroncosNext at Chiefs, Sun Oct 18, 4:25 PM ET

A 17-23 home loss to the Broncos dropped the Chargers to 0-5, and the schedule offers no relief next, with a road trip to face the Chiefs in Week 6.

31. Miami Dolphins ▲ 1 place

Record 0-5ATS 1-3-1Offense 28thDefense 31stLast L 24-31 vs BengalsNext at Jets, Sun Oct 25, 1:00 PM ET

One thing separating Miami from last place is that another team has simply played worse. The Dolphins carry one of the league's weakest offenses and one of the league's weakest defenses, and at -0.11 EPA per play blended across this season and last, the overall picture is grim. A 7-10 finish that missed the playoffs in 2025 set a low bar, and the current season has done little to clear it.

Dropping a 24-31 home loss to the Bengals, Miami now sits at 0-5 with 70 points scored against 132 allowed through five games. A road trip to face the Jets in Week 7 offers the next chance to break into the win column.

Moving Up

14. Green Bay Packers ▲ 10 places

Record 3-2ATS 1-3-1Offense 13thDefense 17thLast W 31-7 vs BearsNext vs Cowboys, Sun Oct 18, 8:20 PM ET

A 31-7 home win over the Bears is the kind of dominant performance that quiets doubters and builds momentum heading into a tough stretch. Next up is a home date with the Cowboys in Week 6.

13. Cincinnati Bengals ▲ 7 places

Record 3-2ATS 2-2-1Offense 11thDefense 27thLast W 31-24 at DolphinsNext at Ravens, Sun Oct 25, 1:00 PM ET

Seven spots is a significant jump, and it reflects recent play pulling the Bengals' numbers in the right direction. They carry -0.0041 EPA per play on the season blended with last year, a figure that is still slightly negative but trending away from the hole left by a 6-11 campaign. The offense has climbed to above-average, and that unit is doing the heavy lifting while the defense remains below average.

A 31-24 road win over the Dolphins keeps the Bengals at 3-2 and builds momentum heading into a tough trip to face the Ravens in Week 7.

9. Detroit Lions ▲ 6 places

Record 3-2ATS 1-3-1Offense 3rdDefense 25thLast W 45-21 at CardinalsNext vs Packers, Sun Oct 25, 4:25 PM ET

A 45-21 road win over the Cardinals is the kind of statement performance that quiets doubters in a hurry. Week 7 brings the Packers to Detroit, a divisional rivalry game that carries real weight in the NFC North standings.

Moving Down

17. Indianapolis Colts ▼ 5 places

Record 2-3ATS 3-2Offense 14thDefense 21stLast L 22-34 at SteelersNext vs Titans, Sun Oct 18, 1:00 PM ET

A 22-34 road loss to the Steelers leaves the Colts at 2-3, with 124 points scored against 138 allowed. The Tennessee Titans visit in Week 6.

23. Las Vegas Raiders ▼ 5 places

Record 3-2ATS 4-1Offense 27thDefense 16thLast L 17-45 at PatriotsNext vs Bills, Sun Oct 18, 4:25 PM ET

A 17-45 road loss to the Patriots is a difficult result to explain away, particularly for a team sitting at 3-2. The Bills come to Las Vegas in Week 6, and how the Raiders respond after that kind of blowout will say a great deal about where this team actually stands.

25. Cleveland Browns ▼ 12 places

Record 3-2ATS 3-2Offense 32ndDefense 8thLast L 12-17 at JetsNext vs Ravens, Sun Oct 18, 1:00 PM ET

A 12-17 road loss to the Jets is the kind of result that stalls momentum at 3-2, and the offense will need to find more punch before the Ravens come to town in Week 6.
